Bollywood Parties

[Back]

In the 21st Century Bollywood has an ever larger presence; winning awards at the BAFTA’s and with the presence of films such as Slumdog Millionaire, Mama Mia, Sweeney Todd and Chicago (who’s all-singing and all-dancing style is modelled on Bollywood). Bollywood began with cinema, specifically with the screening of 6 short, soundless films from the Lumiere Brothers in 1986 and the style of song and dance used in such movies is often considered to be what sells the films themselves. Bollywood dance is modelled on traditional Indian dance, historically northern Indian courtesans or folk dances and is nowadays often blended with more modern styles of dance and even music, such as the contemporary hip hop our classes include.

All this combines to create the lively, upbeat and highly energised style of dance which our Bollywood parties give you the chance to experience in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. We have authentic and experienced teachers to show you how to jhatka, mhatka (hip shaking) and bhangra your way to a good time. Using hand movements and facial expressions to tell the story of the music, Bollywood dance is completely different to anything you will have tried before. Bollywood fashion is also included into your party as Polestars also provide brightly coloured scarves for the hen and bindis and bangles for the other guests, creating a complete Bollywood experience. After 2 hours of dancing, you may want to relax with some traditional Indian Lassi drinks or authentic cuisine and our venues in London, Brighton and Reading are all located close to some fantastic places to relax. The Tamari restaurant and bar in London’s Drury Street even turns into a nightclub after hours; giving you a chance to perform the dance routine you learnt earlier in the day!
