pole dancing, burlesque, can-can in Southampton

Abi aka Ruby Roux

Abi aka Ruby Roux is 22 and teaches burlesque classes, pole dancing lessons, can-can parties, Dirty Dancing parties, hula hoop parties and cheerleading hen parties in Southampton and Bournemouth.
Different day job: Commercial dancer, fire breather, stilt walker - anything entertainment based!
How long have you been teaching for Polestars: 3 years
What's the best thing about teaching for Polestars: The network of teachers and staff at Polestars work really well together and it makes the whole teaching process easy and enjoyable. Once a year we all get together for a training recap and a social event, and it's great meeting people who have similar skills and interests to you.
Fave song to dance to: one of the best things about being a dancer is being able to adopt a character. I like jazzy, sultry tunes for Burlesque performances, and a bit of Pussycat dolls for a cheeky, flirty pole dance!
Fave food: Chocolate!
Fave film: I couldn't choose, but Disney will always have a special place in my heart!
Most embarrassing incident while pole dancing: Short shorts - that's all I'm going to say ;o)
Where can you find me: I can usually be found scantily clad somewhere down on the South coast causing havoc! Whether it's throwing flames around nightclubs, stilt walking at event launches, bodypainting or shopping for lingerie and crazy props! pole dancing, burlesque, can-can in Bournemouth

Maxine aka Chicago Candy

Maxine aka Chicago Candy is 42 years young and burlesque classes, pole dancing lessons, can-can parties, Chicago partiesGrease parties and cheerleading hen parties in Southampton and Bournemouth.
Hometown: Southampton
How long have you been dancing: I have been dancing since I was 3 years old. I began with ballet/tap and modern...later in life progressed to cabaret style dancing and worked proffessionally into my 30's.
What do I love about dancing: Dancing, whichever style, has always given me a real thrill whether I am performing myself or part of the audience.  I admire just how clever the body is.
Why did I start teaching dance: Because of my lifetime love of dance. I really enjoy passing on technique and my experience to others.  It's great to see someone I am teaching progressing and becoming more confident with their own capabilities.
Why I love teaching for Polestars: Whilst teaching for Polestars I am able to teach different styles of dance, some of which I had never done before. They are fun to work with/for and it's great to see many different people having a go at our many different styles on offer... whilst having a good time with friends.
Fave song to pole dance to: Sexy Back by JT, definately.
Fave song to burlesque dance to: "Down In Mexico", from a film called "Grindhouse" is a great track to do a burlesque strip to.
Best dancing experience: Within my career I have done many different shows... all fun, with some scary moments too. One of my favourites was when I went to London's West End and spent a whole week as part of a Masterclass based on "Chicago".  We rehearsed 2 or 3 numbers from the show with the Dance Captain and the Musical Director at professional pace. Then we performed this at The Adelphi Theatre in front of an invited audience. It was Pure Magic!!!
Best teaching moment: Every time someone "gets it".....it's great to see the sense of acheivement on peoples faces.
Most embarrassing teaching moment: It was when I was explaining to a class of ladies how to do back dips in the warm up. Rather than say "slide yourself off the edge of the chair", I said "bring yourself off", it took us all about 10 minutes to stop laughing!!!
Most embarrassing pole moment: When helping someone to do an inverted trick, my hand which was supporting the small of her back slipped as it was a really hot day and she was sweaty too. Lets just say my hand ended up "where the sun doesn't shine"!
Fave food: Houmous with lots of things to dip in it.
Fave films: Sex and The City
Celebrity crush: Josh Hartnett
Hobbies other than dancing: Theatre going and socialising with friends
Personal motto: Life is short. Enjoy it!!!

Why you love teaching at Polestars: Great team and great hen parties.
Fave song to pole dance to: A bit of Motley Crue to set the scene.
Fave song to burlesque dance to: The Stripper
Best dancing experience: GCSE dance/drama routine! It was brilliant, it was about evolution and loads of different styles of dancing. Only four of us did it from a variety of dancing backgrounds so it was a great learning curve.
Best teaching moment: There's never been a bad one! They're all a laugh.
Most embarrassing teaching moment: Don't think I've had one yet, touch wood...
Most embarrassing pole moment: Learning to do a straight leg spin and just falling over myself and ending up black and blue.
Most embarrassing burlesque moment: Most of them are a bit silly and embarrassing really, but it's not important, what is, is about trying to overcome them!
