How to build a Hoop

[Back]

Want to get into hooping but don’t have time to go to classes or parties? Why not follow our simple guide to making your own hoop and have a go at home. Hoops are very simple to make and can be personalised according to your needs; whether you want a fitness hula hoop, exercise hoop or weighted hoop for that more intense workout we can show you how. Just follow our guide for how to make your very own hoop

What you need:

  • Plastic tubing
  • Ratcheting PVC cutter
  • ¾ inch PVC tube connector
  • Coloured tape

How to do it:

1. Measure your tubing. For beginners hoops the standard size is 25mm thick tubing with a circumference of 126 inches (measure the diameter as roughly the distance between your naval and shoulders); remember that for beginners the bigger the hoop the more control. Then simply cut your tubing to the desired size using a ratcheted PVC cutter.
2. Add weight to the hoop. Adding weight, such as sand, will make the hoop spin slower and be easier to control making it the perfect addition for those just getting into hooping.
3. Soften the ends of the tubing. Using either hot air (from a hairdryer) or hot water, soften each end of the tube.
4. Connect the ends. Place one end of the tubing into your ¾ inch PVC tube connector, bend tubing around and place the other end into the connector.
5. Decorate! Using coloured tape personalise your hoop.

It really is just that simple to make your own hula hoop! Or why not head to the polestars shop and have a look at the hoops we have to offer.
