I gained a lot from the pole dancing course as I lost nearly half a stone in the process and every week my arms seemed to get more and more toned. Plus I was never able to walk in heels beforehand, but now I'm the proud owner of 5 new pairs of very high stilettos so it's not just fitness I gained. "I singed up for cancan lessons after watching Moulin Rouge as it seemed like really good fun and you get to wear really cool skirts! I didn’t actually realise how much of a workout it was going to be. Having done the can-can course my abs feel firmer, my legs are more toned and I can walk up stairs without feeling breathless at the top! It’s the perfect kind of exercise where you don’t realise you’re doing it as your concentrating on learning routines and performing. "I’ve always been shy about my body, like every girl I was self-conscious about my wobbly bits and tried to hide them under loose baggy clothes. I was convinced that if I lost enough weight and got to a size 6 I would be more confident. After trying a million diets and hopeless short-lived stints at the gym, I was still unhappy. My friend then suggested poledancing to me and I thought she was mad. How could I strut around in shorts and pretend to be sexy in front of other people when I was so shy my body? However, she wouldn’t give in and I was reluctantly dragged along to a taster session to learn to pole dance. I was amazed to see lots of different women of all shapes and sizes at the class, I thought they’d all be tall and leggy pole dancers. The taster was so much fun and not what I expected at all. I was shy at first, but all the other girls were so encouraging, giving a round of applause whenever anybody performed a good move, so I thought, just go for it. After the taster I booked straight onto the course and was pleasantly surprised to find that most of the girls from the taster had booked too. Joining the course did so much to boost my confidence. It really taught me to relax and just have fun. It was also much more energetic than I had imagined, and within weeks I had lost weight and become much more toned. The moves we learned teach you to make the most of your body and show it off. And by the end of the course I was strutting in my high heels and shorts feeling sexy and proud. Joining the course was the best thing I’ve ever done to raise my self-esteem. I found new friends and new confidence. I’ve learnt not only to live with my curves but to also how to work and make the best of them. Now I’m not afraid to wear fitted clothes or let loose on the dance floor, I’m happy and relaxed about my body and I can’t wait to learn burlesque and do some can-can dancing!" Geraldine, 21, London

"I wasn’t too sure about the idea of pole dancing lessons at first, but it was my new years resolution to loose weight and I wasn’t going to sign up for another expensive gym I’d never go to. The pole dancing course was so much fun and I loved the fact that the classes were all female, we were all in the same boat having never done it before and everyone was really supportive of each other. I felt the burn in my arms and thighs after the first pole dance class and as the weeks went on I got stronger and was able to hold my weight for longer. I always worry about bingo wings but I hate doing weights so pole dancing is my ideal workout!" Beth, 36, Cardiff

"I wasn’t too sure what to expect on my can-can course but it was so such fun. Our teacher, Emma, made us feel really at ease, and I have never laughed so much while doing exercise! Each week we learned a different routine which made it really interesting and challenging and I got a really good workout every time. After some knicker flashing, i couldn’t help but become friends with the other girls in my class! It was lovely to see everyone grow in confidence as we perfected our moves. The only downfall is that it only lasted 4 weeks but I’ve bought my own can can skirt, and me and the girls are getting together for another practice! "We have just returned from Edinbrugh after the most fantastic weekend for my hen Weekend. My hens had organised the whole thing for me so I didnt know what to expect and was lets just say, somewhat nervous. Jill was AMAZING... she made us feel so relaxed and confident, I almost asked her to be one of my bridesmaids! She was immense and made us all feel really welcome at our burlesque dancing lesson on Saturday.
